I've Seen Where the Road Ends. I'm Here to Help You Change Roads.

I’m Rachel Kuehn — a nurse with over 10 years of experience, an author, and the woman behind Rooted Reset.

For more than seven years, I was a hospice nurse. It was sacred work, and it changed me. I held hands through final chapters that were written decades earlier — by insulin resistance nobody caught, by “borderline” labs nobody acted on, by chronic diseases that were called “managed” while they quietly progressed.

I lost count of how many times a family asked me, “Could this have been prevented?” — and how many times the honest answer was yes.

Today I work as a home care nurse, and I carry those bedside lessons into every conversation I have with women about their health.

Here’s the part I don’t skip: the nurse got sick, too.

When I turned 50, my own body started sending signals. Overnight I felt like a switch went off in my body causing chronic (idiopathic) hives, brain fog so bad I thought I had dementia, fatigue where if I overdid it would take me down for days and joint pain where I felt every joint connecting. After about 4 years of dealing with those symptoms my husband needed to be put on blood pressure medication. We sat down and had a heart to heart about our health since I too had my own list other issues...rising labs, restless legs, hot flashes, inflammation and a tiredness that rest didn’t touch. I knew exactly where that road led — I’d watched it end too many times.

On May 4, 2024, I decided to change roads. I stopped fighting my body and started working with it: time-based eating, traditional plant support like maté, diverse plant-based fiber, and a real education in what insulin was doing underneath it all.

The results, at 56: normal labs. Restless legs — gone. Hot flashes — gone. 30 pounds released without dieting. Inflammation dramatically improved. Energy I hadn’t felt in years. I tell women I feel like I’m aging in reverse, and I’m only half joking.

I live in Ohio, on land my husband Ed and I have called home for 30 years — 33 years of marriage and counting. I forage morels and ramps in the spring, tend my garden and my duck and chickens, and believe deeply that healing and rootedness go together. That’s not a metaphor I borrowed. It’s my actual life, and it’s where Rooted Reset gets its name.

I became a nurse at 42 — proof that it’s never too late to become who you’re meant to be. I’ve written about my hospice years in my book, Confessions of a Hospice Nurse, because I believe the lessons from the end of life belong at the middle of it, where there’s still time to act.

If my story sounds anything like yours — the fatigue, the dismissal, the feeling that there has to be more to it — start with my free guide. Then stay for Thursday’s email. I’ll meet you there.
